Board of Health approves December minutes; continues kratom discussion.
Board of Health · Meeting of January 5, 2026
Yarmouth Board of Health approves prior minutes, tables kratom rule. The Board reviewed a draft regulation on kratom manufacturing and sale prepared by Hillard Boskey, M.D., hearing testimony from business owners Vishal Shukla, advocates including John Shinholser of American Veterans for Kratom Safe, and Lora Romney of the International Plant and Herbal Alliance, and a recovery advocate testifying that natural kratom products aided her addiction recovery. The Board separately discussed a Nicotine Free Generation regulation, with Board member Laurance Venezia noting smoking-related health system burdens and Mary Craig citing gradual annual customer loss for businesses, while Shukla raised revenue concerns, stating 60 to 80 percent of his stores' income comes from nicotine and tobacco products.
No action was taken on either regulation; kratom discussion will continue at a future meeting.
