Commission approves demolition of two summer cottages, discusses historic district expansion
Historical Commission · Meeting of January 9, 2026
Yarmouth Historical Commission approves demolition of two summer cottages. Chair Julie Mockabee, Vice Chair Bob Kelley, Commissioner David Geanacopoulos, and Associate Commissioner Sam Lawrence voted unanimously 4-0-0 to permit demolition at 6 Chilton Road and 57 Franklin Street Extension, finding no historic value in either dilapidated structure. Applicants Anthony and Joe Disipio plan to construct 2,500-square-foot Cape Cod-style homes on the same footprints.
Vice Chair Kelley raised concerns about the current 75-year demolition-review threshold and proposed examining planned developments such as Lewis Bay for potential historic district designation, noting increased pressure from the sewer project will likely generate more demolition requests.
