Select Board Releases New Spotlight Bulletin

YARMOUTH — The Massachusetts Drought Management Task Force's declaration of a Level 2 Significant Drought for Cape Cod remains the most consequential local development this week, as the town continues to manage water restrictions alongside ongoing beach infrastructure repairs.

TOWN HALL

The town's most recent News Flash update, issued June 25, confirmed that the Massachusetts Drought Management Task Force has declared a Level 2, or Significant, Drought designation for Cape Cod, a status that typically triggers heightened water-use awareness and conservation messaging from the town. Residents should expect continued guidance from Yarmouth officials on water restrictions tied to the designation.

Separately, the town reported that repairs to the Bass Hole/Gray's Beach Boardwalk are expected to begin and be completed by the end of the summer season, according to a June 30 update. A Special Town Meeting held June 24 also indefinitely postponed the library construction article that had been on the warrant, a decision likely to shape future discussion of library capital planning.

This week's town committee calendar is active, with the Recycle and Solid Waste Advisory Committee, Substance Awareness Committee, and Recreation Commission all meeting July 8, followed by the Waterways & Shellfish Advisory Committee and Zoning Board of Appeals on July 9.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Merrill Memorial Library has a full slate of summer programming underway. A library field trip to the Desert of Maine is set for July 8, alongside the Merrill Film Society's screening of "Jaws" that same evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Summer Storytime continues July 9 at 10:15 a.m., paired with a Shark Week-themed craft session that afternoon. On July 10, the library hosts "Unearth YOUR Story," a poetry workshop presented in partnership with The Telling Room's Young Emerging Authors program. The library is also currently hiring a full-time children's librarian, according to a posting on its website.
