Mattacheese committee approves five concept plans for Select Board presentation

Mattacheese Utilization Committee · Meeting of January 8, 2026

YARMOUTH — Mattacheese Utilization Committee clears five concept designs for former school site. Chair Sharon Wimer and committee members reviewed draft plans from consultant BSC Group combining a 120,000-square-foot indoor sports facility, multi-use fields, and residential development in varying configurations; one scenario reserves land for the proposed M.E. Small replacement school.

Town Planner Kathy Williams said the Select Board would decide final design elements and a community meeting is scheduled for February 25. Member Barbara Lavoine expressed concern that none of the concepts include baseball fields, citing removal of that use to create buffers between sports facilities and neighboring residential areas. The committee approved all five scenarios--Alternatives A, B, C-1, C-1 (Solar Field), and C-2--as a menu of options pending financial feasibility analysis.
