Mattacheese Committee Selects Three Concept Plans for Select Board

Mattacheese Utilization Committee · Meeting of March 19, 2026

YARMOUTH — Mattacheese Utilization Committee advances three concept designs for the former school site. The committee voted by consensus to recommend Alternatives A, B, and C-2 to the Select Board, each featuring a 120,000-square-foot sports complex with four multi-use fields and varying housing densities of 72 to 78 units. Chair Sharon Wimer and consultant Heather Gould of BSC Group presented refined site plans informed by a March 11 community meeting and staff feedback.

The preferred alternatives assume full demolition of the Mattacheese building, pending further feasibility analysis using a $200,000 MassDevelopment Site Readiness grant. Final presentation to the Select Board is tentatively scheduled for May 12, 2026.
