Mattacheese Utilization Committee presents final redevelopment concepts to Select Board.

Mattacheese Utilization Committee · Meeting of May 12, 2026

YARMOUTH — Mattacheese Utilization Committee advances three design alternatives for former school site. Sharon Wimer, MUC Chair, presented final concepts to the Select Board on May 12, featuring a 120,000-square-foot indoor sports facility and 71 to 78 housing units across three alternatives, supported by analysis from consultant Heather Gould of BSC Group. The committee recommended full demolition, citing renovation costs of up to $55.1 million compared to $4.6 million for demolition alone.

Assistant Town Administrator Amy Frigulietti confirmed that Site Readiness Grant contracts will finalize by end of May, with 18 months of feasibility work to follow. The Select Board acknowledged the work and will vote on dissolving the MUC at a future meeting, with town staff assuming responsibility for Phase 6 and 7 implementation planning.
