YARMOUTH — Planning Board discusses UMass short-term rental study with Select Board. Kerry Spitzer of UMass Donahue Institute presented findings showing short-term rentals comprise five to eight percent of Yarmouth's housing stock, with marginal impact on year-round housing availability. Both boards favored incentive-based approaches, including property tax relief and lease-to-locals programs, over stricter regulations.
Joanne Crowley stated the Planning Board does not believe reducing STRs will generate additional affordable housing units and indicated the Board intends to refine the existing STR zoning bylaw for consideration at a Special Town Meeting later this year, while also exploring limits on corporate ownership.
