Yarmouth Board of Health Tables Nicotine-Free Generation Mandate for One Year

Board of Health · Meeting of April 6, 2026

Yarmouth Board of Health withdraws nicotine-free generation motion, citing solo-town risk and sewer construction hardship. Chair Hillard Boskey, M.D., and member Laurance Venezia both said they could not support making Yarmouth the only Cape Cod community to impose the mandate, particularly with Route 28 sewer construction already straining local retailers. Member Venezia withdrew his tabling motion after Boskey noted two board members were absent; the item returns at the May 4 full-board meeting.

The board unanimously approved six-month plastic-reduction waivers for Papageno's and Old King's Coffee House, the latter disclosing it holds roughly $20,000 in non-compliant branded cold cups ordered months in advance, with compliant compostable replacements costing approximately 300 percent more. A septic variance was unanimously granted to Town Fair Tire for a proposed five-bay location in the Station Avenue plaza, where data showed projected daily water usage of 5,643 gallons against a system capacity of 5,729 gallons.
