Yarmouth Board of Health Recommends SRS Hazardous Materials Permit, Grants Six Plastic Waivers
Board of Health · Meeting of May 18, 2026
Yarmouth Board of Health voted unanimously to recommend a hazardous materials storage variance for SRS Building Products and granted plastic-reduction waivers to eight food-service businesses at its May 18 meeting. The board, chaired by Hillard Boskey, M.D., endorsed SRS Building Products' plan to store up to 400 gallons of toxic and hazardous materials at the former FedEx facility at 60 Ansel Hallett Road in West Yarmouth, subject to Health Department conditions including a conspicuously posted spill plan and a ban on vehicle washing, clearing the way for SRS to seek a special permit from the Zoning Board of Appeals. Six businesses — Andrea's West Yarmouth Fish and Lobster, Fox Den Coffee, Little Caboose Corporation, The Loft Restaurant, Hallett Store, Spice Boss Restaurant, and TMJD Guys Inc. — received temporary waivers to draw down existing plastic inventory, with most expiring in October or December.
Stop and Shop, represented by Quality Assurance Specialist Joe Crisologo and Store Manager Tina Songer, became the first grocery chain to appear before the board and received a waiver for plastic types one, two, three, and five, with a required return appearance in September. Vice Chair Mary Craig noted the regulation took effect January 1 and urged Stop and Shop to post in-store signage acknowledging compliance efforts, warning the board, "Months are going by. It's difficult for us.
It's difficult for you as well. But I'm not sure it's happening."
