Yarmouth Select Board Sets June 24 Special Town Meeting on Library Debt

Select Board · Meeting of May 12, 2026

Yarmouth Select Board unanimously sets June 24 special town meeting to reconsider library construction article. Responding to a citizen petition that gathered more than 200 signatures, the board voted 5-0 Monday to schedule the meeting for June 24 at 6 p.m. at the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District facility, with the warrant closing May 15 and a signing meeting set for May 20. Town Clerk Mary Maslowski told the board the meeting is legally required regardless of the outcome of the May 19 ballot question, and that both a two-thirds town meeting vote and a majority ballot vote must pass for the library debt exclusion to take effect.

Resident Linda Callahan noted the town stands to lose a guaranteed state construction grant of $13,438,478 and an additional green library incentive grant of $403,154 if the project fails. Resident Susan Britta countered that the April 28 vote was "a vote to authorize new debt," and that voters decided "the $13 million grant was not equal to a $23 million debt." The board also adopted the original Parkers River Landing fee schedule, setting for-profit event space rates at $1,800 per day in season, after rejecting an amendment by Member Liz Argo to raise for-profit deposits.
