Commission continues Covey Drive pool, pool project

Conservation · Meeting of September 3, 2026

Yarmouth Conservation Commission continues pool and addition project over tree-loss shortfall. Commissioner Bradford Bower pressed engineer Michael Avila of Meyer & Sons on why a 1,178-square-foot hardscape increase at 19 Covey Drive carried only 300 square feet of proposed mitigation. Conservation Administrator Brittany DiRienzo said the buffer itself needs no added mitigation but that roughly 82 inches of removed tree diameter must be replaced "inch for inch," calling for more plantings, including oaks.

The commission also questioned 350 cubic yards of proposed fill and asked the applicant to explore an at-grade pool instead. The case was continued 5-0 to September 17. Elsewhere, commissioners approved a shed near Swan Pond pending 288 square feet of marsh mitigation, cleared vista pruning at 236 Long Pond Drive, and continued two compliance certificates at Rachel Road and Gleason Avenue to October 1 amid unresolved erosion and cleanup issues.
