The Town of Yarmouth released a summary of the Select Board's Oct. 27 meeting, which covered several votes and updates affecting residents and businesses.

The board held a hearing and voted to support a new all-alcohol license for Wajiha Javed, owner and manager of Keshari Indian Restaurant & Bar at 39 Todd Road in South Yarmouth.

The board also voted to waive the usual time limitation on temporary signs for businesses in the wastewater construction zone between Forest Road and the Barnstable town line, allowing the signs through June 1, 2027. The move was described as a response to the project's impact on local businesses.

DPW Director Jeff Colby and Water & Wastewater Superintendent Laurie Ruszala briefed the board on the town's Ground Water Discharge Permit and construction progress at the Water Resource Recovery Facility. The current state permit allows discharge of 0.37 million gallons per day, while the facility is designed to eventually treat 1.83 million gallons per day across three phases, requiring an additional 1.46 million gallons per day of permitted capacity. Because of state permitting restrictions, the Department of Public Works is looking to discharge the additional water at Bayberry Hills Golf Course using leaching manholes placed along fairway edges to limit disruption to golf operations; officials said that site could provide an additional 1.815 million gallons per day of capacity. Board members raised questions about funding, timing, the Aquifer Protection District and state Department of Environmental Protection regulations, and agreed to continue the discussion in coming weeks and months.

Assistant Wastewater Superintendent Ryan Chase and Community Development Director Meggan Eldridge also updated the board on communications around the wastewater project, including coordination with Yarmouth Police on detours, weekly social media updates, daily Waze app updates, mailed and emailed notices to the Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce, and in-person outreach to businesses and residents by Chase and Economic Development Program Manager Stephen Cole.
