Yarmouth Sets April 28 Town Meeting With School Overrides and Library Vote

Town Meeting · Meeting of April 9, 2026

Yarmouth Town Administrator previews high-stakes Annual Town Meeting set for April 28. Town Administrator Bob Rittenour, speaking on the town's "Your Yarmouth" podcast, outlined two Proposition 2.5 overrides heading to voters: $1.4 million for the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School System and approximately $680,000 for Cape Cod Regional Technical High School, driven by a more than 20 percent enrollment spike at Cape Cod Regional Tech and reduced state education aid. A third ballot question would authorize a debt exclusion for a new town-wide library estimated at roughly $35 million, offset by $13.5 million in state grant funding and more than $2.5 million in projected private fundraising, leaving the town's share below $20 million — about $10 per month on the average tax bill.

All three questions require Town Meeting approval on April 28 before proceeding to a ballot election on May 19. Rittenour called this "a particularly important annual town meeting" and said he hopes turnout approaches the nearly 1,000 residents who attended the vote that launched the town's wastewater project.
