Health board defers minutes, moves meeting time
Board of Health · Meeting of September 21, 2026
Yarmouth's Board of Health heard that an unbudgeted $25 million sewage-treatment cost at Bayberry Hills Golf Club could raise residents' future sewer bills. Vice Chair Mary Craig, who also sits on the town's wastewater advisory committee, said the state has not yet approved the town's March sewage disposal report, and warned the added cost "might force some residents into a pay-to-stay choice" between septic upkeep and sewer hookup fees. Assistant Health Director Barry Lewis reported the board's plastic reduction regulations, in effect nearly a year, will go out for a five-question survey to roughly 323 local businesses through the Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce, due back October 5.
The board also heard that short-term rental non-compliance has dropped to 50 properties, down from five times that figure three years ago, and that only one beach, Long Pond, closed all summer, for cyanobacteria. Members voted unanimously to defer approval of their August 17 minutes, left out of the packet, and agreed to shift their own start time to 5:30 p.m. starting October 5.
