Yarmouth Economic Development Committee Reconstitutes, Elects Officers at First Meeting

Other Committee · Meeting of May 18, 2026

Yarmouth's Community and Economic Development Committee convened for the first time under its newly reconstituted membership on May 18, electing Director of Community Development Megan Eldridge as chair, Planning Board representative Will Rubenstein as vice chair, and holdover member Pete Malpass as clerk. The committee reviewed a fiscal year 2027 tourism fund budget of $564,264 — up roughly $40,000 from the prior year — drawn from 25 percent of the town's rooms, meals, and short-term rental tax receipts, a fund Eldridge said has returned nearly $7 million to the community over roughly 20 years. The panel's one formal action was a unanimous vote directing Eldridge to seek replacement quotes for the broken digital community information board at the Chamber of Commerce visitor center on Route 28, which has been out of service for approximately a year despite a $4,000 repair attempt; the original installation cost around $25,000.

Chamber president and CEO Mary Villebon, attending as a member of the public, noted the board draws weekly calls from residents and town departments and that a third permitted community information board location at Parker's River Landing has yet to be installed.
