Yarmouth Select Board sends four ballot questions to spring election

Yarmouth Select Board votes 4-1 to place school overrides and immigration question on spring ballot. The board approved two separate override questions — $1,481,348 for the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District and $680,194 for Cape Cod Regional Technical High School — rejecting a combined alternative on a 4-1 vote Tuesday. A non-binding advisory ballot question asking residents whether they support constitutional rights for all Yarmouth residents regardless of immigration status also passed 4-1, over objections from members including Cheryl Ball of West Yarmouth, who called the language "intentionally misleading." The board voted 3-2 to recommend the library construction article for the town meeting warrant, after architects presented a total project cost of $35,706,091 against an already-approved state grant of $13,438,478; Member Mark Forest said he was "very concerned about our overall financial picture," while Chair Tracy Post warned that putting multiple costly items on one ballot risks seeing them all defeated as happened previously.

A shellfish aquaculture lease for Christian Hayes was postponed pending resolution of state review questions about the town's shellfish program.
