Mattakese Committee Clears Draft Report for May 12 Select Board Presentation
Other Committee · Meeting of May 4, 2026
Yarmouth's Mattakese Utilization Committee approved five sets of meeting minutes and finalized revisions to three concept plans and a draft feasibility report ahead of a May 12 Select Board presentation. BSC Group consultant Heather Gould walked the committee through updated site plans for the former Mattakese school parcel showing Alternative A with 12 single-family homes and six townhomes, Alternative B with six single-family homes, six townhomes, and 60 multifamily units at 125 parking spaces, and Alternative C with five single-family homes, six townhomes, and 60 apartments. Committee chair Sharon Weimer pressed for executive-summary language placing community gathering space first and substituting "conservation" for "open space" throughout, and urged the report make an explicit case for relocating the parcel's solar fields to benefit the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District's budget.
Member Barbara LaVoyne cautioned the group against wordsmithing the entire document, saying it was "not productive of our time." Gould said the next steps after the Select Board presentation would include a market assessment, feasibility study, traffic analysis, and formal wetland delineation, work she estimated would take at least another year before any Request for Proposals could be issued.
