Yarmouth Conservation Commission Approves Great Island Revetment, $600,000 Land Acquisition
Conservation · Meeting of May 21, 2026
Yarmouth Conservation Commission approved a new stone revetment at Great Island Road and authorized a $600,000 land acquisition at Nottingham Drive at its May 21 meeting. Bob Perry of Cape Cod Engineering, representing property owners Dewey and Margaret Awad at 9-11 and 9-21 Great Island Road, told the commission the site has eroded at three to five feet per year and that softer erosion-control measures including fiber rolls had repeatedly failed, saying the forces there are "incompatible" with bioengineering solutions. The commission approved the Notice of Intent with special conditions, including a professionally reviewed planting plan, by a 5-1 vote.
In a separate unanimous action, the commission accepted the deed for approximately 3.14 acres off Nottingham Drive and Hockenham Road, purchased for $600,000 under authority from the November 2025 Yarmouth Town Meeting, and approved a conservation restriction transferring the parcel to the Yarmouth Conservation Trust. The commission also unanimously approved an enforcement order against property owner Mark Doran of 21 Glenwood Street, giving him until September 3 to remove an unpermitted patio and stone wall or file an after-the-fact Notice of Intent.
