Yarmouth Conservation Commission fines Great Island stairway project, continues case to June
Conservation · Meeting of May 7, 2026
Yarmouth Conservation Commission issued a $300 fine and continued a Great Island Road stairway case while approving eight certificates of compliance at its May 7 meeting. The commission voted to continue SE83-2532, an after-the-fact filing by Down Cape Engineering for Robert Griffin of Great Island Associates, to June 4, requiring a revised plan and native plantings as mitigation after the association replaced a coastal dune boardwalk and stairway without prior permitting; members noted the violation letter had gone unanswered for nearly a year and called it at least the third or fourth after-the-fact filing from the area. The commission separately approved SE83-2414 for Scott Peterson at Susan Rowe with a nourishment trigger set at 30 percent fiber roll exposure rather than annual application.
COCs at 10 Kersage Road and 14 Compass Drive were issued conditionally, pending administrative review of unpermitted walkways, while the 703 Route 28 demolition and residential redevelopment project was continued to May 21 amid member concerns about hazardous materials and abandoned vehicles on site.
